The Liverpool Council of Education was founded in 1873 and provided a scholarship ladder from the elementary schools to the secondary schools of the city. It was ncorporated as a charity in 1925 to act as a trustee of various charitable funds and to promote and encourage education, in particular by assisting schools and pupils in Liverpool. It continues to operate by making grants to Liverpool schools and pupils of Liverpool schools.
