The arts and crafts school of the Imperial and Royal Austrian Museum for Art and Industry was founded in 1867. In 1900 the administration of the museum and the arts and crafts school were separated. In 1919, in what was now republican Austria, the school was renamed the School of Applied Arts of the Austrian Museum of Art and Industry. After several changes of name it is now the University of Applied Arts Vienna
