Technologischen Gewerbe-Museum
The Technologische Gewerbemuseum (TGM) was founded on 26 October 1879 by the enginer and educationalist, Wilhelm Franz Exner. He had been inspired by the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers in Paris, which he had visited. The purpose of the TGM was technical education to support Austrian commerical enterprises. It initially did this through exhibition and instruction, hence the naming. It operated initially under the auspices of the Niederösterreichischen Gewerbe-Vereines (Lower Austrian Trade Association). Over the years more subjects were added to the curriculum. In 1979/80 it moved from its original bldings into a modern building, where it remains today.
