k. k. Universität zu Wien 1872 - 1975

The Imperial and Royal Polytechnic Institute in Vienna was founded in 1815 by Emperor Franz I of Austria. In April 1872 the institute became a technical university, the k. k. Technische Hochschule. In 1901 the university was granted the right to award doctorates. From 1919 women were allowed to enroll. In October 1975 it became the Technical University of Vienna.
