The creation of the Industrial School of Ghent was first proposed on 15 December 1825 and was formed from the merger of two earlier institutions: the School of Arts and Crafts, and the Special School of Industrial Design and Weaving. From 1835, the Industrial School offered courses in the arts, manufacturing, civil architecture and ciivl engineering.
