École la Martinière

The Martinière Schools were created in 1800, funded by the bequest of Major-General Claude Martin, who died on 13 September that year. He had planned the posthumous use of all his assets to create several schools open to all. In Lyon, the Martinière School for Boys was founded in 1826 and for Girls in 1879. La Martinière de Lyon was the main technical establishment in Lyon until the creation of the École centrale de Lyon in 1857. Until around 1965 , the Martinière school was semi-public, under the supervision of the City of Lyon, which still remained Martin's executor. In around 1967 it split into three independent high schools: La Martinière Terreaux , La Martinière Duchère and La Martinière Monplaisir. Martinière Schools wqere also founded in India.
