The Spinning and Mechanical Weaving School in Mulhouse was founded in 1869, through the merger of the École Théorique et Pratique de Tissage mécanique (Theoretical and Practical School of Mechanical Weaving) and the École de filature (Spinning School). It continued to teach for nearly a century before changing its name in 1966 to the École Supérieure des Industries Textiles.
