École professionnelle de Mulhouse
The Professional School, Mulhouse was founded in 1854 prior to the annexation of Alsace to Germany amd was initially directed by Dr Paul Schutzenberger and from 872 to 1898 by Dr. Cherbuliez. The school taught about 250 pupils and was principally a day school, but has a boarding house attached with about 40 boys. It included a commercial section and am industrial section. In this latter section boys were taught history, literature, mathematics, the physical and mechanical sciences, and drawing, and as special courses machine construction, textile fabrics, and the chemical arts. teaching was supplemented by visits to factories, and in 1879 included carpet factory, a paper mill, two machine works, two spinning mills, a dye-works, and two tool manufactories.
