The Schnitzereischule (Carving School), Furtwangen was founded in 1877, with the aim of teaching carpenters and carvers and specialised in Black Forest industries. In 1891 it moved to a new building that it shared with the Uhrmacherschule (watchmaking school). Here the two schools worked closely together, and produced designs for Black Forest cuckoo clocks.
