Uhrmacherschule

A watchmaking school in Furtwangen was first established in 1849 by Grand Duke Leopold von Baden, but closed in 1864. A a new school was set up in 1877, which trained watchmakers in a one-year course which was both theoretical and practical. A new building opened in 1891, when it introduced training in electromechanics and precision. It shared this building with the Schnitzereischule (Carving School). The school's reputation increased at home and abroad after the mechanical engineer Heinrich Bauman took over the management of the school in 1900, a position he held until 1922, when it became a state technical school.
