Karl Maximilian von Bauernfeind (28 November 1818 – 3 August 1894) German geodesistm, surveyor and civil engineer. In 1868 he was appointd as the first director of the Polyechnic School in Munich which in 1877 became the Royal Bavarian Technical University of Munich. This later became the Technical University of Munich, which still honours those whio have made outstanding contributions with the Karl Max von Bauernfeind medal.
