Giovanni Omboni (30 June 1829 - 1 February 1910 ). Italian academic geologist , paleontologist amd naturalist. Omboni studied mathematics at the University of Pavia, where he graduated in 1852. In 1869 he became the chair of mineralogy and geology at the University of Padua. During this time he was involved in the reorganization of the collections of the Museum of Geology and Paleontology of Padua. He was one of the founders of both the Italian Society of Natural Sciences , holding the position of secretary for a long time, and of the Italian Geological Society, of which he was elected president in 1892.
