File is comprised of five bundles of materials on attempts to modify the roads near Stonehenge, including A303. Bundle one contains email correspondence from members of the South West Transport Activists Roundtable and Transport 2000, a leaflet and letters produced by National Trust, letters from Friends of the Earth, and strategy papers produced by South West Transport Activists Roundtable, National Trust, and others relating to government plans to introduce a road near Stonehenge and the heritage and environmental impacts of this decision, activist plans to combat the road and attempts to change National Trust's position on influencing the road works. Bundle two contains correspondence between members of Transport 2000 and Transport 2000 Trust and Lord Whitty on behalf of the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions, photocopied magazine articles, press releases produced by Transport 2000, one transcript of A303 Stonehenge improvements inquiries, and strategy papers relating to the development of the A303 tunnel bypass alongside Stonehenge and Transport 2000's collaboration with National Trust and Somerset County Council. Bundle three contains a leaflet 'Stonehenge at Risk. Support the Stonehenge Alliance' produced by the Stonehenge Alliance including members of UNESCO World Heritage Centre, English Heritage, National Trust, and the Secretary of State for the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions; information sheets produced by Friends of the Earth South West, Highways Agency, and others; proof of evidence and transcript from the A303 Stonehenge improvement public inquiries; and a letter to core Transport Activist Roundtable (TAR) members with information on a meeting; all of which discuss the A303, Stonehenge, and Winterbourne Stoke bypasses and Transport 2000, Stonehenge Alliance, and other allied groups' actions to campaign against development of these roads. Bundle four contains a printed brochure produced by the Highways Agency 'A303 Stonehenge improvement. Scheme Review - public consultation', note to the Secretary of State, and printed email correspondence on the road building decision-making and campaigning (2006). Bundle five contains press releases and press cuttings relating to campaign activities against road developments near Stonehenge on the A303 (1999-2007).
