Manchester Corporation Waterworks 1848 - 1971
Manchester Corporation Waterworks was the successor of the earlier Manchester and Salford Waterworks co., which was established in 1814. It later became the North West Water Authority.
Between 1890 and 1925, the Waterworks built the pioneering Thirlmere Aqueduct to help supply the ever-growing industrial city of Manchester with clean water from the Lake District.
