Machine tool manufacturer based in Coventry. In 1888 Herbert bought the business of Coles and Matthews, where he was manager, entering into a partnership with William Sammons Hubbard. By 1894 Herbert had bought out Hubbard, and the business became Alfred Herbert.

In 1966, Allfred Herbert merged with Churchill Machine Tool Co and became part of Herbert-BSA Ltd. The firm went into voluntary liquidation in 1980.
