Dictograph Telephones Ltd was formed to handle the telephone arm of the General Acoustics Company, who had invented a handsfree telephone system. The company was registered in 1907. Although Dictograph Telephones Ltd was a global company, it had its longest run of success in the UK.

By the 1960s, Dictograph Telephones Ltd was still known as a manufacturer and installer of intercommunciation telephone systems, as well as being manufacturers of sound reproduction equipment, staff location systems, public address systems and electric clocks.
