1845 - began exhibiting at the Royal Academy. 1853 - first important public work, the statue of Sir Robert Peel for St George's Hall, Liverpool. 1856 - having won the commission, completed the monument to Arthur Wellesley, first Duke of Wellington in Piccadilly, Manchester. 1876 - his widow presented his plaster models to the corporation of Newcastle upon Tyne where they were displayed in Elswick Hall but most of them were later destroyed.
