George Ruff Senior; painter and watercolourist active in Brighton in 1850s; became a professional photographer in 1855 producing collodion negatives and latter carte-de-visite; retired from photography in 1876 returning to painting; traded at 45 Queen's Road, Brighton, England (1856-1876); his son George Reuben Ruff, known as George Ruff Junior (c. 1858-c1913) continued work as a photographer and artist.
