Medical adviser to the Crown in Scotland, 1829 to 1866, he acted as medical witness in nearly every prominent case in Scotland, including Burke and Hare. In 1871, Sir Robert Christison measured Scottish lakes' water temperatures using cistern thermometer, made by Adie & Son.
