The Lancashire Steel Corporation was formed, in 1930, by the amalgamation of a number of smaller companies - including the Partington Steel and Iron Company. Although it was initially very succesful they ceased the production of steel in 1979. The former steel works are now the site of the Northbank Industrial Estate, in Irlam.
