Founded 1876 by Carl Rechert in Vienna, specialised in the manufacture of microscopes, microtomes (instruments for cutting thin sections of biological material), projectors and cameras. Incorporated around as C. Reichert, Optische Werke AG around 1909. Partly sold to American Optical Corp. (Massachusetts) in 1963, complete takeover in 1972.
