1860 - joined Garibaldi's forces and fought in the last battles against the Bourbons at the Volturno and at Capua. 1862 - celebrated the coming-of-age of the visiting prince of Wales. 1864 - arrived in London, penniless. 1869 - commissioned (using the pseudonym, Singe), to produce coloured portraits chargés of Disraeli and Gladstone for Vanity Fair. 1877 - until his death in 1889, shared the caricaturing for Vanity Fair with Sir Leslie Ward ('Spy') and several other artists, using the pseudonym 'Ape'.
