Johann Christoph Voigtlander 1732 - 1797
Johann Christoph Voigtländer, German compass maker; known to be working in Vienna from about 1755; his youngest son, Johann Friedrich Voigtländer, created in a shop for optical instruments in 1808, which eventually went on to become a renowned camera maker; subsidiary founded in Brunswick, Lower-Saxony (Germany) in 1849.
