Son of Charles Shepherd Senior, also a clockmaker. January 1850, elected as a member of the Society of Arts. Shepherd Junior exhibited his developements to the electric clock system at the 1851 Great Exhibition. In 1852, his system-installed at Greenwhich Observatory-was heart of Britain's times system. In 1853, he was employed by the East India Company as ‘1st Class assistant to the Electric Telegraph Establishment’. As such, he was responsible for overseeing the establishment of a telegraph network for the Indian Government.
