Swaziland has a 301 km rail system with a gauge of 1.067 m. Plate laying began in 1963 and the new railway was officially opened by the Ngwenyama, King Sobhuza II. Swaziland Railway was established for the sole purpose of transporting a single commodity - iron ore.
