Founded in 1871 as joint venture between the International Navigation Company of Philadelphia and the Société Anonyme de Navigation Belgo-Américaine of Antwerp, Belgium. Clement Griscom was its founder and led it until 1902. The company amalgamated into the International Mercantile Marine Co in 1902.
