1998 - Martin N. Parker, Head of 'Engineering Design Services', Met. Office, Beaufort Park, Easthampstead, Wokingham, Berkshire. Parker wrote a paper entitled 'The life and times of the standard 5-inch rain gauge' in the 'Mercury' June 1998. He referred to LDJ Harvey (Met. Office employee), who had recorded - May 1985 - the problems with copper rain gauges. Parker was arguing that Stainless Steel should be used.
