E Suter was a major Swiss manufacturer of cameras and lenses founded in Basel, Switzeralnd in 1878; from 1900 Emil Suter designed and manufactured brass barrel lenses, based on his own patent, and also lens on licence for other companies such as Zeiss; they also manufactured tailboard studio cameras, detective cameras and self-errecting bellows cameras; the company was floated on the staock exchange in 1913 as Optische Anstalt E Suter AG; the comapny closed in 2006.
