Partly responsible for the development of the Carmelite order in England, devotion to Mary - Mother of Jesus - meant he was given the brown scapular by her. c.1430 - Johannes Grossi (a Carmelite writer) wrote that Mary 'appeared to Simon Stock with the scapular in her hand'.
