Incorporated on 31st July 1868 but due to financial difficulties did not open until 1st February 1875. It linked to the Ryde and Newport Railway and went bankrupt in 1879. It was then run by the C & NR and the R & Nr committee under OR. These three companies amalgamateto form the Isle of Wight Central Railway.
