British railway company, incorporated on 27th July, 1846. The company was allowed to raise capital of £3,000,000 through the sale of 60,000 shares. North Counties Union Railway Company, which included projects of the proposed York and Carlisle, and Yorkshire and Glasgow Union Railways, was authorised to build 127 miles of railway. However, only two miles of track were built, before the company was sold to the Leeds and Thirsk railway for £6000. The last company meeting was held on the 20 February 1860.
