Lærdal founded Laerdal Medical AS in 1940, as a small publishing company, this branched out to become major suppliers of medical equipment. Lærdal pioneered the development of training manikins such as resuci anne. In 1980 the Lærdal Foundation for Acute Medicine was founded.
