Founded by Edwin Pridham and Peter L. Jensen in 1917 to manufacture their invention of a moving-coil loudspeaker, also called 'Magnavox'; major manufacturer of consumer and military electronics, including radios, TVs, and record players; introduced the home video game console in Odyssey in 1972; bought by Philips in 1974 (defence arm, Magnavox Electronic Systems, remained independent); electronic products still sold under the Magnavox name (2009).
