Iron works founded in 1851 by Daniel Adamson at Newton Moor, Greater Manchester; specialized in engine and boiler making, notably 'Manchester Boilers', exported around the world; developed collapsible valve known as Adamson Flange Seal, and generally improving design and manufacturing process; in 1872 designed and built the Daniel Adamson and Co factory, new premises in Dukinfield near existing foundry; Daniel Adamson and Co remained a family business until 1964, when it was sold to Acrow Engineers Ltd
