Impressions Gallery

Impressions Gallery opened in 1972 as one of the first specialist photography galleries in the country. In 2005, at the invitation of Bradford Council and with support from Arts Council England, Impressions made the bold move to relocate from York to Bradford. This new building, located in Centenary Square in the heart of the city centre, was reflective of Impressions’ greater scale and ambition. The building featured a light and spacious gallery space, which opened in August 2007 with Sharpe’s Wood, an exhibition by Bradford-born Liza Dracup. Impressions became an early part of the city’s cultural renaissance, welcoming some 50,000 visitors a year. In 2026, Impressions Gallery took up residence in the former Bradford Club, an iconic, well-loved historic building in the city centre, after its lease in Centenary Square ended. Impressions continues its artistic programme while thinking ambitiously about the future and a new permanent home in Bradford.
