A Japanese company manufacturing photographic lenses, optical components and commercial/industrial-use optics. Predecessor was Taisei Optical Equipment Manufacturing who specialised in camera and binocular lenses. Became Tamron Co., Ltd in 1970. Sony is a major shareholder in the company and the two companies have worked together on several Sony-brand lenses for the Sony α series of digital SLR cameras.
