Founded by Ebenezer Landells and Henry Mayhew in 1841, but struggled until it was taken over by the printing firm of Bradbury and Evans (later Bradbury and Agnew). It published the work of some of the greatest comic writers the world’s finest cartoonists. The magazine was bought in 1969 by United Newspapers and was closed in 2002.
