Founded by Steve Jobs in 1985 after he was forced to leave Apple; NeXT introduced the first NeXT Computer in 1988, and the smaller NeXT station in 1990; NeXT withdrew from the hardware business in 1993 to concentrate on marketing their own OpenStep programming environment; also developed WebObjects, one of the first web application frameworks; Apple purchased NeXT in 1996.
