Founded 1907 as Kuribayashi Camera Industry, Inc. (Kuribayashi Shashin Kogyo); became Gōshi-gaisha Kuribayashi Shashin Kikai Seisakusho in 1930, though because many of its cameras were called First many were advertised as 'First Camera Works'; became K.K. Kuribayashi Shashin Kikai Seisakusho in 1949;1962 became Petri Camera Ltd.; produced a range of bellows and SLR cameras comparable to Nikon's; filed for bankruptcy in 1977 but continued in production as Petri Kogyo K.K. thanks to a union buy-out; however, the Petrie camera brand was sold to the Dixons Group in the 1980s and camera production ceased; Petri Kogyo K.K. continue to manufacture telescopes.
