Begins railway career with GNSR. 1871 - moves to LNWR. 1873 - moves to NER. 1874 - returns to LNWR. 1884 - moves to LYR. 1890 - becomes chief engineer on the MSLR. 1896 - becomes chief engineer on the GNR. 1911 - becomes consulting engineer. His later works include the Herford Loop and Breydon Water Viaduct.
