1982 Harris Overseas Ltd. bought the Alba trademark and name (previously used by British electronics manufacturer Alba, previously A J Balcombe); Harvard International floated on the stock exchange as Alba plc in 1987; company originally made only low-cost consumer products under its own brand name; bought Bush Radio in 1988 and Goodmans in 1994; until May 2008, Alba was joint owner of the German brand Grundig, along with Turkish electronics giant Beko; Alba also used to own Pulse Home Products which it purchased in October 2001, selling it in 2007 to the Rutland Partners private equity group; the Alba and Bush brand names were sold to Home Retail Group, the owner of Argos; at the same time Alba plc reverted to its former name of Harvard International.
