Chris Steele-Perkins born Rangoon, Burma in 1947 to a British father and a Burmese mother; moved to London with his family in 1949; graduated from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1970, while working as a photographer and picture editor for the student newspaper; moved to London 1971 working as a freelance photographer; joined the Paris-based Viva agency in 1976; first book, 'The Teds', published 1979; joined Magnum and began working extensively in the Third World.
