Influential Pop Art artist; studied art at Royal Academy 1938 to 1940; industrial designer 1941 to 1946; expelled from Royal Academy in 1946; continued studies at Slade School of Art 1948 to 1951, concentrating on etching; 1952 founded 'Independent Group' with Eduard Paolozzi and Lawrence Alloway; taught at Central School of Arts and Crafts and at Royal College of Art between 1957 and 1961;1956 produced 'Just what is it that makes today's homes so different, so appealing?' as part of exhibition 'This is tomorrow'; 1963 began incorporating photography in his work; began working with digital media in 1980s. Died 2011.
