Austrian-born documentary photographer (neé Edith Suschitzky) 1908; studied photography at Bauhaus but worked as kindergarten teacher in Vienna; anti-fascist and Communist activist, married idealistic doctor Alex Tudor-Hart in 1933 before fleeing Austria; settled in Rhondda Valley in Wales where she photographed living conditions of workers; produced photographs for various magazines, covering social issues such as poverty and refugees from the Spanish Civil War; suspected of acting as Soviet agent during and after the second world war; her brother Wolfgang Suschitzky also photographer and cinematographer in Britain.
