Founded 1799 by Benjamin Scott in Carlisle as printers and publishers; succeeded by nephew Mr Hudson Scott; began printing on tin c 1876; began using offset lithography in supplying printed metal sheeting to biscuit tin manufacturers; opened own box works in Carlisle; incorporated as Hudson Scott & Sons Ltd in 1898; formed Metal Box & Co Ltd in 1922
