Studio photographer, born Leyburn North Yorkshire, 1833; specialised in photographing dogs, working extensively with Crufts; started as a lithographer with a studio in Bedale, 1858; moved to London in 1867 working for seven years as chief photographer for Elliot & Fry; set up own studio in 1874 at 9 Baker Street; member of (Royal) Photographic Society from November 1883; appointed photographer to Queen Victoria in 29 January 1897; died 1900. Studio remained active (as Thomas Fall?) until at least 1962.
