1890 - a mule-spinning cotton mill constructed on site. 1916 - the original cotton mill destroyed by fire. 1921 - the mill was rebuilt as a ring-spinning mill. 1975 - the mill was electrified. 1982 - the mill closed. 1984 - the derelict mill was purchased by Coates Bros (Printing Inks) Ltd. 1985 - most of the mill demolished. The Ellenroad Trust created by Coates Bros and Rochdale Metroplitan Borough Council in partnership. 1986 - the site was Scheduled an Ancient Monument.
