1902 - Forms 'Fireproof Celluloid Syndicate Limited', to research and market phenol formaldehyde products. 1910 - The Syndicate's assets are transferred to a new company, The Damard Lacquer Company Limited, in Birmingham.

1927 - Bakelite Limited is formed. This is a result of the merger – organised/ managed by James Swinburne and Leo Baekeland (of the Bakelite Corporation) - between the Damard Lacquer Company with two other English companies, Moldensite Limited of Darley Dale and Redmanol Limited of London. Both the latter companies were licensees of Baekeland's patents and controlled by him.
