1763 - established Lowca Foundry, Whitehaven, Cumbria, with his brothers Thomas and Crosby Heslop where locomotives and stationary engines were built until 1920s; partnership with William Stead, brother of the inventor of the crank, Mr. Johnson, of Whitehaven, Mr. Millward, and a lady named Ritson, the style of the firm eventually becoming Heslop, Johnson, Millward, & Co.
