1800 - located in Newington, Surrey, patented (2367) a "perpetual sculling machine" propeller. 1802 - his propeller tested successfully on the Government transport ship Doncaster. 1805 - having moved to New Crane, Wapping, patented (2803) an apparatus for raising ballast from a ship. 1813 - James Lowe started an apprenticeship. 1825 - James Lowe becomes a partner in the business. 1826 - along with James Lowe, fitted 'two parts of a screw' to the Royal George barge but it was unsuccessful. 1834 - Lowe leaves the partnership.
